Prior to becoming the new Director at WCUMCP, Erin taught in the Marvelous Monkeys class for 5 years. During her time there she put her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts to good use by creating and teaching an in-depth art curriculum for the school including an after-school art club. She continued work in the art education field teaching for Young Rembrandts as well as creating an after-school art club at Brookhaven Innovation Academy. She further developed her professional skills teaching Kindergarten last school year at Brookhaven Innovation Academy as well as expanding her after-school art club to working with students in K-8th grade. Erin resides in nearby Norcross with her husband, 11-year-old daughter and former WCUMCP alumni Audrey, and 2 beagles, Frida and Diego. She spends most of her free time fundraising and volunteering for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, and St. Baldrick’s as well as volunteering at Brookhaven Innovation Academy.
Bettina Smalley was a parent at Winters Chapel before she began helping us in the office and as a classroom substitute 16 years ago. Bettina is also our Assistant Director. Bettina’s daughter, Christy, is a sophomore at the University of Georgia and her son, Adam, is a senior at Norcross High School this year. Both are Winters Chapel Preschool Alumni. Bettina has a B.S. in Business and Psychology from the State University of New York and an M.B.A. from Georgia State.
Cat Baker is very excited to be the lead teacher in the Laughing Llamas this fall. She is mother to 2 wonderful children, Alex in first grade this year and Vicki, in kindergarten. Cat moved to the United States 9 years ago. Her nationality is German and she has an Associate Degree in Industrial Management from the Business School of Trier, Germany. Cat has worked for the last 11 years with children in all different environments, from private nanny to Montessori preschool teacher in Luxemburg.
Blair Chan is returning for her eighth year at Winters Chapel and third year being a Marvelous Monkey. She loves bringing joy, fun and adventure to these marvelous minds! She has three children- Nicholas 9th grade, Millyn 7th grade and Jaxson in 2nd grade. Blair’s children are Winters Chapel alumni and still speak on their fond WCP memories. Blair has a BA in Hospitality from Georgia State. For 15 years, she worked at a local hotel planning meetings and parties for corporate and social organizations. Now she plans a party in the Monkey room every day! She can’t wait to meet all her new monkey friends this year!
Diane Chappell will return for her 18th year at Winters Chapel as our primary substitute Diane has a B.S. in Psychology and a Masters in Therapeutic Recreation from Georgia State University. Diane teaches her Fun & Games Galore P.E. class at several schools in the area including ours. Diane’s daughter, Lindsay, will be a senior at the University of Georgia this year.
Kellie Meehan was a parent at Winters Chapel. She has twin girls in Middle School that will be home schooling through the Georgia Virtual Academy again this year. Kellie has helped us with logistics for Kids Closet and around the school, filling in where needed for the past 10 years. She loves the outdoors and vacations at the beach. She will be instrumental this year in helping us adhere to CDC cleaning/disinfection guidelines.
Allison Parkes was a Winters Chapel parent for three years, and began working as a substitute during that time. This will be her eighth year as a two year old teacher. She will be in the Lucky Ducks this year. Allison has a degree in Political Science from Berry College in Rome, Georgia, and she worked at Turner Broadcasting for ten years. Her daughter Lindsay is a ninth grader and son, Wade, is an 11thth grader at Dunwoody High School. Daughter Brooke, is a 6th grader also at Peachtree Charter Middle. .
Kelly Romano will be in the Lucky Ducks class this year. This is her tenth year teaching at WCUMCP. Kelly has a B.S. in Exercise and Health Science from Kennesaw State University. She lives in Johns Creek with her husband, Matt. They have an eighth grade son, Michael, at Marist and a daughter, Kaitlyn, in fourth grade this year at Barnwell Elementary.
Marissa Wadsworth is excited to begin her 3rd year teaching music at Winters Chapel. She finds joy as she sings, dances, and creates music with young children. She received a BA in Music Education with an elementary music specialist emphasis from Brigham Young University. She has four children: Adelyn in 4th grade, Hudson in 1st grade, Elsie in the Llamas class, and Bennett in the Pandas.
Brook is an alumni of Kennesaw State University, having studied Early Childhood Education and Human Services. She has over ten years of teaching experience, working with ages ranging from one to twelve. Brook believes that the most successful teachers are fun, adaptive, consistent, encouraging and continually learning new things to make herself more effective within the field. When she is not inside the classroom molding young minds, you will find her caring for her two children (ages five and ten), exploring her love of history and furthering her education at Kennesaw State with the long term goal of earning her doctorate. Brook is looking forward to her second year working with Ms. Cat in the Llama’s classroom with us at Winters Chapel.
This is Billie's first year working with the UMC Winters Chapel family, and she'll be assisting Ms. Blair in the Monkeys classroom. Billie is an Atlanta native who attended Colorado State University, and hopes to return to her pursuit of an early education degree at Georgia State University. Before joining our team, she was a long term nanny/mother's helper and has experience working with ages 1-13. She prides herself on finding creative solutions, sparking an interest in learning, and fostering empathy. When she's not working, you can find her on the couch with her pug, watching cartoons and making art.
Martha Anne Singer
Martha Anne Singer is starting her 10th year at Winters Chapel Preschool. She has a bachelor's degree in Special Education and taught for 5 years in the Chicago Public School System. In her prior years at Winters Chapel, she taught Math and Science, assisted in the Flying Fish (3 year old) room and been lead teacher in the Flying Fish room. She has 3 children - Jake (19 at GA Tech), Jordan (18 at GA State University), and Cara (15 at North Springs High School). she is excited to teach Mindful Mondays and STEM this year!
Shaina enjoys working with children of all ages. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development from the University of Rhode Island. After moving to Atlanta with her husband in 2 014 , she taught young toddlers at a Montessori school . Shaina started substitute teaching at Winters Chapel this past school year before becoming a teacher for the Tumbling Teddies. Shaina’s two sons have attended Winters Chapel since they were babies. Eli, her oldest, is in kindergarten while her youngest, Caleb, is in pre-k. In her free time she enjoys doing art and science projects with her children, baking, hiking, spending time with her husband, and playing with their dog, Pickles.
Lorena is excited to be assisting in the Playful Panda’s class for the 2021-22 school year. This will be Lorena’s fourth year at Winter’s Chapel Preschool. In previous years, Lorena has worked with the infant classes all the way to the pre-kindergarten classes at our school. Lorena and her husband Daniel have four children. Their youngest, Joshua, will be in the Pre-K class this year at Winter’s Chapel. Lorena has a nursing assistant certification and is bi-lingual, speaking English and Spanish. She has been an active volunteer with the ESL program at Winter’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
Luz is originally from Guatemala. She has been a member of the surrounding community for 9 years. She loves working with children and is a teacher in the Busy Bees class. Luz is happily married to her husband David for 13 years and is mom to three children ages 12,10,and 5 years old, and pug Milo.
Dana is thrilled to be working in the Busy Bees class. She is a member of the community along with her husband, 2 sons (9 and 5), and rescue dog, Buttercup. Her son Donovan is a member of the Cool Cats. She loves bake, craft, and read. Her mother just recently retired from early education and Dana has been in a classroom with her in some capacity as long as she can remember.
Kathy Lopez is lead teacher in our Cool Cats Pre-K class. Kathy has a BA degree in Early Childhood Education and many years of teaching experience. Her favorite thing about teaching is the chance to instill excitement and a love of learning. Kathy has three adult children and two grandchildren. She lives in Roswell and enjoys movie nights with her family.
Kelsey Clayton is assisting in the Cool Cats classroom. She has an Associate of Arts degree in Psychology from Burlington College in New Jersey. Her daughter Delia is a 10th grader at Centennial High School and son, Frankie, is a first grader at Hillside Elementary School. Kelsey has worked in retail merchandise as a team lead for the last six years. She is excited to bring her love of hands-on learning to the children.
